Beef Bulgogi Bowls

Instructions

  1. 1

Combine the soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, mirin, grated pear, garlic, and ginger in a bowl. Add the sliced beef and toss to coat thoroughly. Marinate for at least 20 minutes, or up to overnight in the fridge.

  2. 2

Heat a large skillet or wok over very high heat until smoking. Add 1 tbsp oil.

  3. 3

Cook the beef in a single layer in batches — do not crowd the pan. Cook for 1–2 minutes per side until caramelised and cooked through. The sugars in the marinade will char slightly, which is desirable.

  4. 4

Fry the eggs in a separate pan to your liking.

  5. 5

Build the bowls: add a generous scoop of steamed rice to each bowl. Arrange the bulgogi beef alongside.

  6. 6

Top each bowl with a fried egg, sliced cucumber, kimchi, spring onions, and a sprinkle of sesame seeds. Serve immediately.
